In June 2016, videos of a Bape fan shouting “Fuck Supreme” at anyone wearing Supreme in New York, went viral on the internet. Bape have issued a tweet stating that they “are not in any way associated” with the man known as ‘YMBape’ and “Do not endorse such disrespectful behaviour.” (Complex, 2016).

Since, YMBape has since been pictured with Bape’s key celebrity promoters, hanging out with rap stars such as Lil Uzi Vert. This stunt increased brand awareness for Bape without hindering their reputation (Instagram, 2017).
